Prospects
for the future
To enable DAG develop further, its leading faculty
have consulted and still have to consult with specialists of political
science, international relations, diplomacy, law, economics at the leading
educational and research institutions in the USA and Europe, such as the
Institute for the Study of Democracy (Georgetown Univ.), SAIS (John Hopkins
Univ.), APSIA, AU, George Washington Univ. (Washington D.C.), Fletcher School
of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts Univ., Medford, M.A.), Kennedy School of
Government (Harvard Univ., Cambridge, M.A), Tulane Law School (Tulane Univ. New Orleans, L.A), Foreign Service Institute (Arlington, V.A), OSU (Columbus,
OH), Univ. of Pittsburgh
(P.A), George Mason Univ. (VA), etc. Tight academic and scholarly contacts
and exchanges, joint conferences and workshops, summer school arrangements,
possibility of issuing a joint diploma are desirable with any interested
university or college in the USA , Europe or any other
well developed universities and research centers.
It is vital for
the Diplomatic Academy to be affiliated with
institutions interested in joint work aimed at mutually beneficial programs,
which will also help to develop DAG, help it to become an up-to-date
educational and research institution able to function as an International or
Southern Caucasian/Regional Diplomatic Academy and a research center.
Georgia's
favorable geopolitical situation, its participation in important
intergovernmental projects, such as TRACECA (implementation of which will be
of great interest to a number of countries, including the USA), make the
Diplomatic Academy a convenient base for preparing specialists able to work
towards fostering better understanding and closer cross-cultural contacts
between the three Southern Caucasian countries (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan)
and the North Caucasian states. (The first step towards that was attempted by
DAG on its own initiative and funding through the conference mentioned above;
another- through participating in international Diplomatic Training Courses
for young diplomats of the South Caucasus, which were sponsored by the Swiss
Government and conducted by leading European specialists at the Diplomatic
Academy in 2001-2002). The implementation of the projects offered by DAG will
considerably improve the situation in the Region,
make it less confrontational, more cooperative and peaceful.
With its still
untapped potential DAG may well develop into a regional research center, where
important political and economic projects will be designed, analysis of
critical situations will be conducted and practical recommendations will be
produced. Due to the scientific/research potential of the leading faculty of
the Academy, its good and well equipped building DAG can become a convenient
base for mutually beneficial meetings, seminars or conferences of
international scholars, experts, researchers and theorists. DAG has
prerequisites enabling it to accumulate a rich bank of information on TRACECA,
The Silk Road Project, Oil Pipeline projects, on the tendencies of
development of various political/economic situations in the region, to
accumulate the information resulting from analysis of critical situations,
etc., all of which can be of great use to foreign scholars, politicians,
companies, etc.
Georgia's membership in major international
organizations, its participation in a number of international economic
projects and its natural access to significant transportation routes make it
an interesting place for partner scholars interested in Georgia, who
can help develop the idea of broadening international relations, intellectual
or business partnership with this country, its practitioners and
intellectuals. Few Georgian institutions have research and educational
potential equal to that of DAG.
Cooperating
with foreign colleagues and scholars in Georgia or abroad DAG’s faculty seek to:
-
study curricula of
the Departments of Political Science/International Relations, International
Law, English Departments at relevant universities; study the disciplines with
the aim of incorporating them into DAG's curriculum, some of them in the near
future, others - later , depending on the availability of specialists or on
funding
-
collect necessary
books and materials; use rich library resources of American and European
universities and research centers
-
consult with
specialists of the above mentioned fields as regards disciplines most
suitable to Georgian (or in future- to Southern Caucasian) Diplomatic Academy
-
consult with foreign
scholars (at relevant research centers) regarding the prospects and practical
possibilities of turning part of the DAG's resources into a prospective
Southern Caucasian research center; discuss points of mutually beneficial
interests and prospective joint activities aimed at the attainment of peace
in the Southern Caucasian Region, so important for the implementation of
international intergovernmental projects (TRACECA and others)
-
seek possibilities
of exchange programs for students and faculty with relevant universities and
schools
-
seek possibilities
of joint work with scholars, researchers, theorists aimed at conducting
analysis of situation in the Region, which is in the interests of the world
community and aimed at a joint work producing practical recommendations for
creating a sound ground for implementation of projects of practical
importance
-
discuss
possibilities of using DAG's intellectual potential, its know-how and its
access to mass media (through its political journal and programs on an
independent TV channels) for the creation of an International Diplomatic
Academy in the Southern Caucasus and a research center on its basis
-
discuss topics of
mutual interest for future meetings, conferences, workshops of interested
scholars together with Georgian specialists
-
search for
interested institutions and scholars aware of the mutually beneficial aspects
of the project and besides, of its importance for the Southern Caucasus, the
North Caucasus and the Central Asia.
Any suggestions
are welcome. We are looking forward to hearing from our colleagues and
interested persons and organizations.
